Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: What exactly do you do?
A: We take your ideas or drafts for grant proposals or articles, proofread and edit them into polished, finished documents suitable for submission.
Q: Do I have to come to you?
A: No. (We are located in Northern Missouri.) While we have done site visits with our existing clients (see our Services-- we do keynote speaking and workshops), most find it easier and less time-consuming to maintain an electronic relationship. We'll work with you primarily via email and telephone calls. We save you time to do what you do best--practice medicine.
Q: What if I need more than proofreading?
A: No problem! Edit Rx provides developmental editing.
Q: What is 'developmental editing'?
A: This means we take your document apart, word by word, and reassemble it in a way that conveys your ideas as effectively as possible. We'll communicate our vision for the piece and its re-organization to you before we do extensive work, to make sure our ideas are consistent with yours. We then send you the revised document, with the changes tracked, for your review.
Q: I'm just having problems with the format of my grant or manuscript. Can you help?
A: Formatting is no problem for us. We can return a submission-ready, finished document to you overnight in those circumstances.
Q: So, what if I have a draft of a manuscript? What next?
A: You send the draft to us electronically. We will be happy to recommend a journal. We then read your work in its entirety in order to understand its entire scope. If we have questions, we'll e-mail you.
Q: How long is your turn-around time?
A: The process of reading your work depends on the length, clarity, and complexity of the draft you send us. Obviously, works that come to us as ideas take a little longer to bring to fruition than completed draft documents! Our excellent time management skills allow us to manage a number of projects simultaneously. Our turn-around time for manuscripts is rarely more than one week, two or three if the project is extensive.
Q: How are fees handled?
A: You or your institution can contract with us project by project, or you can contract for a number of hours per month, per fiscal year, etc., depending on your needs.
